De slaven van de reeds voor 1835 verlaten katoenplantage Oxford zijn hiernaar overgebracht. Eigenaren Sir John Young (gouverneur van Nieuw-Zuid-Wales, Australië) en Anna Young (Engeland). Beiden zijn erfgenamen en kinderen van Sir William Young, baronet. Deze verkreeg plantage Kent in 1843 bij een executieve verkoop.

KENT was a Surinamese plantation in the Beneden-saramacca region.
In 1863, the year of emancipation, 207 enslaved people were registered at KENT. This made it the #51 largest plantation in Suriname (top 90%). Their descendants — who in 1863 received a family name for the first time — are spread across the Caribbean and the global diaspora today.
